Three weeks are gone

Hello Readers,

to the end of July I would like to share some experiences of this month. Nearly three weeks are gone and we find everyday more the way into our lives here.

The Uni is really different from home - it´s a bit more like school. There are a lot of assignments to do, some presentations and projects, so actually we have to do a lot more than what we are used to. Our smallest course consists of 6 guys, the biggest has 21 students :-D And at the moment we are just doing civil engineering. I also noticed that the Namibian students are scary fast with their calculators. The professors are pretty funny and – very hmm… how can I say? individual.

There is one that has a soo short view that he can’t read the numbers on the right side of the blackboard, when he is standing at the left. He is also writing a 3 as a 5, so I am always copying wrong answers from the blackboard.

Then we have a professor that is just a little bit convinced of himself *cough*. Yes, he is always coughing like ”kchr” in the middle of the sentence to give his speech some more Importance. Most famous situation so far: One of our colleagues came too late and he made a scene. Ok when he wanted to discuss the prices here and in Germany- for hookers- it was also a strange situation.

The third professor said in the first lesson he doesn’t like the subject he has to teach and it’s mostly boring. Actually it isn’t that bad and he is funny, does lots of breaks and finishes at least 1 hour earlier.

All in all Uni is fun and we learn a lot about the way the people study and the way they are.

The kiosk food is also great on Cämpuus. For roughly 1,60€ you can get a coke AND a hotdog! Then they sell “Fat cakes”- a dream made of wheat, fat and sugar…for 14ct. Actually most of the stuff in there is cheaper than in the supermarket.

Ah and we went shopping – got some Nike lite for 30€, a nice Unibag for 8€ and a watch for 3€.

The city is great but the landscape is even greater –so this weekend we are off to the biggest moving dunes in the world and it will be over 30 degrees at daytime and 14 at night. That’s the Namibian winter. Photos and videos to follow…

Hear you soon

Lennart
